European four wheel drive enthusiasts have been using ARB and Old Man Emu suspension products since the early 1980s, proudly preparing their vehicles for local touring and competition as well as African and East African adventure tourism.
The first ARB product available to European enthusiasts was the ARB Air Locker. At this time Air Lockers were a little known traction control device that was gaining popularity in the US market.
Since then ARB has continued to grow its presence in Europe both in diversity of product supplied and in geographic representation. Today, a comprehensive range of ARB products are available in the majority of European markets, all backed by ARB’s professional aftersales service. In recognition of ARB’s loyalty to its European customers, a stocking, distribution and technical centre has been established in Prague, Czech Republic.
ARB’s Australian origins date back to 1975, when company founder, Tony Brown, was inspired by a 4WDing trip through the top end of the country. Back then, 4WDers relied on homemade or ill-fitting equipment that was not designed for extensive Outback expeditions. Endless corrugated roads, extreme temperatures, and the heavy loads carried by Australian travellers were extremely punishing on vehicles that regularly tackled these kinds of conditions. Tony’s many years spent toiling on his Series 1 Land Rover proved extremely beneficial to others in the top end during his travels. Damaged bull bars and broken roof racks ensured Tony’s expertise was regularly called upon, and through this experience an idea was born – to produce high quality, durable equipment that would meet the vigorous demands of 4WD owners.
Upon his return to Melbourne, Australia Tony put theory into practice and began working in the family garage to address some of the product deficiencies he’d encountered on his trip. It was exactly what Australian 4WDers had been waiting for, and ARB, the initials of Anthony Ronald Brown, was founded.
Today, ARB is Australia’s largest manufacturer and distributor of 4×4 accessories and proud to have facilities throughout Thailand, the USA and now Europe.
To ensure our products consistently meet your expectations, ARB invests substantial capital into research and design each year.
Our design and engineering team utilises the latest CAD, CAM parametric modelling systems and finite element analysis packages, and is supported by subcontract companies and universities for special projects like vibration, strength and crash testing. We also devote considerable time and resources toward sourcing new products from around the world. ARB Intensity lights from the US, IPF lights from Japan… we scan the globe in search of equipment that meets both the demands of our customers and our own stringent quality requirements.
In addition to all of this, we are constantly on the lookout for new ways to improve our business practices, from distribution to customer service. ARB is a Quality Endorsed Company and wherever we can, we endeavour to ‘raise the bar’.
Today’s requirements for more complex designs are met by us with highly advanced, Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) sheet fabrication facilities. ARB’s production facilities are equipped with a range of state-of-the-art machinery suited to the manufacture of metal products. Our manufacturing capabilities include laser cutting, guillotining, robot grinding, CNC bending, machining and turning. We’re equipped with MIG, TIG, robot and spot welding facilities and also have powder coating and spray painting centres.
ARB has a very highly skilled and motivated workforce at our manufacturing plants. We have a stringent quality control system in place, ensuring our exceptionally high standards are maintained.
